Lot Essay
The present plate, with its unusual palette of colours, relates closely to a plate in the Louvre depicting an Old Testament scene (see S. Baratte, Les Emaux Peints de Limoges, Paris, 2000, no. OA952, p. 238). Like that plate, the present example appears to combine the style of Pierre Reymond for the design of the reverse, but is evidently executed by an enameller from the very end of the 16th or beginning of the 17th century.
