See the closely related example from the Tuck Collection in the Petit Palais, Paris, illustrated by Pierre Morel D'Arleaux, 'De Vincennes à Sèvres', Cahiers de la Céramique et des Arts du Feu (Paris, 1958), no. 9, p. 33, fig. 9, listed in the Tuck Collection, Catalogue, no. 99.
For a discussion of this form see Rosalind Savill, The Wallace Collection, Catalogue of Sèvres Porcelain, London, 1988, Vol. II, pp. 692-695. A Vase 'à compartiments' with similar ground colours and cartouche also from 1759 is illustrated by Savill, ibid., Vol. I, pp. 97-101, cat. no. C226. A further similar ewer and basin was sold from the René Fribourg Collection, Sotheby's London, 15 October 1963, lot 447.
Antoine-Toussaint Cornaille was a painter of flowers, patterns and gilder active at Vincennes and Sèvres 1755-1800.
The répareur mark FR to the ewer may be for either François-Firmin Fresne (Dufresne), active 1756-67, or Françios-Denis Roger, active circa 1755-84.
