8o (210 x 133 mm). Folding engraved frontispiece view of Hobart-Town (repaired tear along outer edge). (Some occasional spotting.) Contemporary half calf, marbled boards (rebacked, some wear at corners and edges). Provenance: Cornwall Library (inscription dated "1823" on front pastedown).

FIRST EDITION of Evans extensive description of Van Diemen's Land, with chapters on geography and natural history, and including the market prices of various agricultural products and lists of the civil establishments for Hobart-Town and Port Dalrymple. The large chart of the island mentioned on the title-page was issued separately and as usual is not present. Ferguson 861.
