Almost certainly based on print sources, scenes depicting fashionable people in late 17th century dress in a windowed interior were produced at a variety of factories throughout the 18th century. See D.F. Lunsingh Scheurleer, Delft, Niederländische Fayence, Munich, 1984, p.220 - no. 107 for a tea caddy in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam unattributed to a factory and dated to the end of the 17th century; p. 221 - no. 110 for an armorial plaque also in the Rijksmuseum and unattributed, dated circa 1700; p. 221 - no. 111 for a jug in the same museum and p. 225 - no. 120 for a house-form cistern in the collection of the Musées Royaux d'Art et d'Histoire, Brussels, both marked for the De Roos factory and dated to the late 18th century. The present bottle, its mark datable to 1756-1778, is based on these same sources.
