LATE MING DYNASTY, LATE 16TH/EARLY 17TH CENTURY
The long slender handle inlaid in silver wire with an inscription, fu shou wu jiang (fortune and longevity forever), between decorative borders above and below, the ruyi-shaped head and the upper and lower portions of the handle gilded, the tip pierced, with extensive malachite encrustation

Compare two ruyi sceptres of this type, one with silver-inlaid mark, Yunjian Hu Wenming zuo, illustrated by P. Moss, Emperor, Scholar, Artisan, Monk, Sydney L. Moss Ltd., London, 1984, no. 126; the other with a Yunjian Shen Minghuo zuo mark sold in these rooms, 20 March 2001, lot 71, both dated late Ming dynasty.
