Although the lid of this qalamdan, with the depiction of Nasir al-Din Shah (1831-1896) dates to the mid 19th century, it seems likely that this is a later redecoration on an 18th century original. The interior of the lid with the landscape and the floral decoration to the sides of the box, relate to the works of the early 18th centuries and works such as those by Muhammad 'Ali ibn Muhammad Zaman. Whilst not attributable to this artist, it seems likely to be the product of a similar period.
