Arabic with Persian translation in verse form, manuscript on paper, 17ff. plus two fly-leaves, each with 9ll., three of large black tawqi', the other 6ll. of smaller elegant black nasta'liq divided in two columns, within gold and black rules, the text panel framed by gold and polychrome rules, with heavily illuminated Qajar headpiece, colophon signed, waterstaining, minor repairs, in Qajar red and green morocco binding

Lot Essay

This well known nasta'liq scribe worked in Herat and spent his early years working for Mir 'Alishir Nava'i. His numerous recorded works are dated between AH 915/1509-10 AD and AH 992/1584-5 AD (Mehdi Bayani, ahval va asar-e khosh-nevisan, vol. I, Teheran, 1345 sh., pp. 268-71, and in the Topkapi (F.E. Karatay, Topkapi Sarayi Muzesi Kutuphanesi Farsia Yazmalar Katalogu Istanbul, 1961, cat. nos. 777, 787).
