OTTOMAN TURKISH, LATE 19TH CENTURY
unsigned and undated, the brass quadrant fixed onto a wooden support, carrying an engraved sexagesimal triginometric grid, punctuated with the usual geometrically arranged dots, inscriptions to the edges.

Lot Essay

A larger instrument than the more commonly seen wooden examples. Possibly one of a pair, and of a sufficiently large size to suggest it was intended for accurate use (perhaps in an observatory setting) rather than portability.
