A BYZANTINE BRONZE HANDLE IN THE FORM OF A PANTHER
CIRCA 4TH-5TH CENTURY A.D.
With elongated body, large head with bared teeth, 5 in. (13 cm.) long; and another 19 bronze mainly vessel attachments, including a pair of Greek bronze handles with palmette attachment plates, circa 5th Century B.C., 7 in. (18 cm.) wide; two Roman bronze lion paw feet, 2 in. (5 cm.) high max.; and nine Greek bronze spool-shaped handle attachments, circa 5th Century B.C., 3½ in. (9 cm.) long max. (20)
Provenance
European private collection; acquired in the late 19th Century by the grandfather of the present owner.
