Lot Essay

This early form of seau à liqueur was sold separately and was not included with a service. This example was delivered to Lazare Duvaux between 1 August 1756 and 1 January 1757 (Vy 2 fol. 17) and is recorded as '1 seau à liqueur ovale lapis enfants camaieu - 168 L.'. It is subsequently recorded in the Livre Journal de Lazare Duvaux no. 2677, sold on the 27 December 1756 to 'M. de Boulogne, Intendant: un feau à compartimens, gros bleu, & caraffes - 204 L.'.

M. de Boulogne (the spelling varies) was Intendant et contrôleur général, in 1719 he married Catherine de Beaufort, he died circa 1768-9.
