Lot Essay

This service was acquired by Jeanne (Bécu) Gomard de Vaubernier, comtesse du Barry, mistress of Louis XV and was intended for use at the château de Louveciennes. David Peters records that this was the first service at Sèvres to combine a monogram and neo-classical motifs, see Peters, Sèvres Plates and Services of the 18th Century (Little Berkhamsted, 2005), pp. 461-464.

Guillaume Noël was a painter of flowers and patterns at Vincennes and Sèvres from 1755 to 1800.
