CIRCA 1840, MAKER'S MARK LPSC IN A HORIZONTAL LOZENGE
Rectangular box with rounded corners, the hinged lid applied with a frosted gold plaque depicting a shepherd and gentleman with a lyre seated by a temple in an arid landscape, within a chased polished gold foliate surround, the border and corners chased with scrolling foliage, the sides similarly chased against alternating diaper-pattern and hatched ground, the base similarly chased around a central polished gold cartouche engraved with the scrolling monogram 'MFC', the interior of the lid engraved with identical monogram over two crossed laurels, raised incorporated thumbpiece
