FIRST EDITION of Chaucer's Works to be printed in Roman type. John Urry undertook the task of editing an edition of this work in 1711, and upon his death on 18 March 1715, the work was picked up by Thomas Ainsworth, and finally completed by Timothy and William Thomas. Urry was the first editor in nearly 150 years to consult a substantial number of manuscripts, which he used to assemble the text for his edition (DNB). Lowndes II, 426.
