ALMOST CERTAINLY DESIGNED BY JAMES 'ATHENIAN' STUART AND PROBABLY SUPPLIED BY JOHN GORDON, CIRCA 1758-65
En suite, each with a cartouche-shaped padded back upholstered à chassis, padded arms and seat covered in green cut-velvet, the husk-carved toprail centred by a C-scroll cresting and with beaded and acanthus-carved stiles, the lower back rail fluted and centred by a palmflower, the arms with scrolled terminals and acanthus-carved supports, above serpentine arched and fluted seat-rails centred by palmflower-carved beaded reserves, on fluted and beaded cabriole legs each headed by a palm leaf cartouche and with scrolled feet, one inscribed 'NO 3' and stamped 'VI', and one inscribed 'NO 37' and incised 'WP', re-gilt, originally white-painted and parcel-gilt and with castors
