Almost en suite, with bellflower carved frame, caned back and seat on turned legs, redecorated, traces of an earlier gilt and painted scheme

Lot Essay

The scale of this bergère recalls the miniature fauteuil by Jean-Baptiste Tilliard commisioned by another champion of the 'Goût Grec' taste, George William, 6th Earl of Coventry in Paris between 1763-1768 (sold in these Rooms by the Trustees of the Croome Estate, 13 June 1991, lot 32).
