Lot Essay

The present enamel plate can be compared with other examples attributed to the 16th century enameller Pierre Penicaud. An enamel by Penicaud in the Louvre depicting The People paying Homage to Psyche (op. cit., no. R 309, p. 111) is stylistically closely similar, in particular when one examines the portrait profile to the reverse of each.
