CASE: the hood with relief-carved cornice and carved capitals to stop-fluted columns, arched trunk door, plinth on bracket feet DIAL: 13½ in. square cut-away brass dial signed on the chapter ring 'Geo Furnace/DUBLIN', with subsidiary seconds ring and date aperture MOVEMENT: four pillar movement with anchor escapement and inside countwheel strike-on-bell; two brass weights, pendulum

Almost certainly acquired by Charlotte, Countess Spencer,'From C Brady's/Antique/Furniture Warerooms/8 & 27 UPPER LIFFEY STREET/Dublin' during the tenure of her husband John Poyntz, 5th Earl Spencer (1835-1910) whilst Viceroy of Ireland, 1868-74 and 1882-85 and thence by descent in the Staircase Hall at Spencer House, where photographed in 1916.
Thence by descent until removed by Albert Edward John, 7th Earl Spencer (1892-1975) circa 1927 to Althorp, Northamptonshire.
