A GEORGE III SILVER OBLONG INKSTAND
MARK OF THOMAS AND JOSEPH GUEST AND JOSEPH CRADOCK, LONDON, 1811
On winged paw and scroll feet, with shell and gadroon border, with supports for three silver-mounted cut-glass bottles, engraved under the central bottle with an inscription, the pen rests each later engraved with a cypher within the garter motto and below an earl's coronet
10¼ in. (26 cm.) wide
weighable silver 33 oz. (1,027 gr.)
The inscription reads 'Legacy of Jonathan Acklom Esqr deceased 1812 to his Grandaughter Esther Acklom'.

The later cypher is that of Frederick, 4th Earl Spencer.
Provenance
Given to Ester Acklom as a legacy from her Grandfather Jonathan Acklom (d.1812), presumably left by her to her husband John Charles, 3rd Earl Spencer (1782-1845) and by descent to his brother
Frederick, 4th Earl Spencer (1798-1857).

Lot Essay

John Charles, 3rd Earl Spencer (1782-1845) married Ester Acklom, only daughter and heiress of Richard Acklom, of Wiseton Hall, Notts, on 13 April 1814. As they had no issue the title passed on his death to the 3rd Earl's brother Frederick.
