CIRCA 1906, SIGNED 'LIDAHL'
Circular gilt-brass presentation box, the independent cover centred with frosted medallion depicting the king in profile to the right and inscribed 'CHRISTIAN IX KONGE AF DANMARK', signed 'LINDAHL' below neck, within guilloché border and outer border decorated with anthemion, the interior cover engraved 'Presented to Charles Robert, Viscount Althorp, by Queen Alexandra, 1906.', the base with central medallion with an allegorical scene representing the liberty of Denmark and inscribed above 'TIL MINDE DEN PRIVILLIGE SELVBESKAT NING TIL FARDRELANDETS FORSVAR 1885-1891', further inscription below, 'MAND OG KVINDE, DRENC OG PIGE GAV SIN SKJARRV TIL DANMARKS RIGE.', similarly decorated borders and engine-turned sides

Lot Essay

According to the 7th Earl's inventory, the box was presented to Charles Robert, Viscount Althorp (1857-1922), who represented King Edward VII at the funeral of the King of Denmark in 1906.
