A bronze figure of the Second Karmapa
Tibet, circa 16th century
Seated in dhyanasana on a double-lotus base with beaded rims and hands resting on his knees, wearing thick inner and outer robes with the borders incised and inlaid with copper, his meditative face with heavy-lidded eyes and goatee surmounted by his distinctive hat, with cold gold remaining on the face and neck and an inscription on the verso

Lot Essay

The inscription translates to "The greatly accomplished Karma Pakshi, Teacher of Dharma." Karma Pakshi lived 1203-1283.
