The Mistral Coupe, designed by Pietro Frua, formed the bread and butter of the Maserati range in the mid 1960s. Built in steel with alloy bonnet and doors, the Mistral had two seats and useful fully-trimmed luggage platform, accessed through the increasingly fashionable rear hatchback door. Launched at the Turin Show in 1963, 3.5, 3.7 and 4.0 litre versions of the Maserati twin-camshaft straight six were fitted, the latter as standard from 1967, and all came with British-designed Lucas mechanical fuel injection. Normally fitted with a ZF five speed gearbox, some cars were supplied with automatic transmission to cater for the American market, where the marque was popular. With 255bhp on tap the top speed of an automatic car, such as the one on offer today, should be good for around 130mph with brisk acceleration.

This 1968 Mistral is said to drive well and is in good order, the only notable blemish being a slight dent in the right hand door. Air conditioning is fitted.

These attractive six cylinder cars represent affordable Maserati ownership and touring in grand style. The car is presently registered in Switzerland.
