Lot Essay

A close comparison of the landscapes confirms that the present cup and saucer were painted by the same unidentified hand responsible for the landscape on the rose marbré small coffee-pot from a New England Collection sold Christie's, New York, 5 May 1999, lot 63.

The tea-caddy from the déjeuner to which the present cup and saucer also belong is at Hillwood. See L. Paredes Arend, Sèvres Porcelain at Hillwood, Washington, D.C., 1998, p. 23, fig. 23.
