Lot Essay

William Cary (1759-1825) was a pupil of the famous maker Jesse Ramsden, becoming a highly regarded instrument maker in his own right. He is recorded working at several addresses on the Strand until his death in 1825, when his two nephews, George and John, continued the business under his name.
