A PAIR OF .75 (MUSKET BORE) FLINTLOCK OFFICER'S PISTOLS
SIGNED DIXON, LEICESTER, CIRCA 1820
With octagonal twist sighted barrels each signed 'LEICESTER' and inlaid with a single gold line at the breech, platinum-lined touch-holes, tangs each incorporating the rear-sight and engraved with foliage and a trophy, flat bevelled border and scroll engraved bolted locks each signed 'DIXON' and with stepped tail, semi-rainproof pan and roller, figured walnut three-quarter stocks each with chequered butt, engraved iron mounts including trigger-guards each with pineapple finial, silver escutcheons and barrel-bolt escutcheons, one escutcheon engraved with initials, foliate engraved brass fore-end caps, and iron stirrup ramrods, one pistol retaining traces of original faded browned finish to the barrel, case-hardened finish to the lock and some blued finish to the trigger-guard, Birmingham proof marks
