Each on octagonal stepped base, the side engraved with Prince of Wales' badge, motto and initials GP (Georgius Princeps), each marked on base, date letter incuse A; together with a pair of English salt-cellars similar, unengraved - maker's mark of Crichton Brothers, London, 1923

George, Prince of Wales, later King George II of England and Elector of Hanover (reigned 1727-1760)
By descent in the Royal family of Great Britain and Hanover till the death of William IV in 1837 when the two kingdoms became seperate under different monarchs.
Enrnest Augustus, 1st Duke of Cumberland and King of Hanover (reigned 1837-1851), fifth son of King George III of Great Britain and brother of King William IV
By descent to his grandson, the Duke of Brunswick (1845-1923)
Purchased by the current owner's grandfather on 24 October 1923 with the preceding and succeeding lots for a total of 400 from the London dealers, Crichton Brothers. They also supplied the later matching salt-cellars on 15 November of the same year for 15.
