A FINE GERMAN SILVER-GILT TABLE-SERVICE
Maker's mark of Lewin Dedeke, Celle, 1722-1723, the knives unmarked
The rat-tailed spoons and three-pronged forks each with deeply fluted top to the stem, the reverse engraved with the Prince of Wales' badge, motto and initials GP (Georgius Princeps), the octagonal pistol-handled knives similarly engraved and with scimitar steel blades comprising:
- Eighteen table-spoons
- Eighteen table-forks
- Eighteen table-knives with steel blades
- Two basting spoons
together with
- Eighteen additional table-forks made to match - maker's mark of Crichton Brothers, London, 1928

George, Prince of Wales, later King George II of England and Elector of Hanover (reigned 1727-1760)
By descent in the Royal family of Great Britain and Hanover till the death of King William IV in 1837 at which time the two kingdoms became seperate under different monarchs
Ernest Augustus, 1st Duke of Cumberland and King of Hanover (reigned 1837-1851), fifth son of King George III of Great Britain and brother of King William IV.
By descent to his grandson, the Duke of Brunswick (1845-1923)
Purchased by the current owner's grandfather from the London dealers, Crichton Brothers on 24 October 1923, together with the preceding two lots for 400. They also supplied the later eighteen table-forks on 22 March 1929, described in the bill as '18 Water-gilt table forks, to match pattern' for 40-10-0.
