Lot Essay

This is probably a copy after a picture titled Skiddaw in Cumberland, a summer evening with a stage coach, exhibited by de Loutherbourg at the Royal Academy in 1784 (no. 78), of which several versions or copies are known. Ibbetson is known to have made copies of work by de Loutherbourg in the 1790s.
