A Blue and White Porcelain Bottle with the Ten Signs of Long Life (Sipjangsaeng)
Joseon dynasty (19th century)
With bulbous lower body set on a short, circular foot rising to a tapered and tall cylindrical neck with rolled lip, painted around the body in dark and medium tones of underglaze blue with auspicious symbols of longevity associated with the Ten Signs of Long Life, here a dragon chasing a flaming pearl in waves, bamboo and pine, a pair of flying cranes, a pair of mythical tortoises, a pair of leaping deer, and mountains and the sun, all arranged in connected space drawn with rocks and clouds, a single blue line above the foot, the bottle finished with a glossy clear glaze with blue cast
