A gilt bronze figure of Tara
Nepal, circa 16th century
Seated in lalitasana on a double-lotus base with broad petals, the pendant right foot resting on a diminutive lotus rising from the base, the right hand in varadamudra and the left holding the stem of a lotus blossoming at her shoulder, clad in a flowing dhoti with a floral motif, beaded jewelry, pendant earrings, and a foliate tiara, the face serene with elongated eyes and bow-shaped lips, the hair in plaited tresses drawn up into a high chignon with a row of curls spanning the forehead and locks escaping over the shoulders
