A HONGMU BIRDCAGE
Finely constructed of thin strips of hongmu joined by wider sections forming the square frame, fitted with a gilt-metal inlaid and inscribed hanger and bat-form lift on the door, the interior with two wood perches carved on either end with scroll patterns, with inlaid wood and carved metal birdfeeders and fixtures
8¾ in. (22.2 cm.) high, 7 7/8 in. (20 cm.) square
Provenance
Acquired in Shanghai between 1974-5, and thence by descent within the family to the present owner.
