QIANLONG SEAL MARKS IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE AND OF THE PERIOD (1736-1795)
Each supported on a wedge-shaped foot ring and with steep rounded sides rising to an everted rim, decorated on the exterior with four characters, wan shou wu jiang, each enclosed by a circle of ruyi-heads, separated from each other by two of the bajixiang and lotus sprays, all between a band of scrolls encircling the rim and petal lappets above the base, the interior with a shou medallion surrounded by the bajixiang

Lot Essay

The characters wan shou wu jiang may be translated, 'boundless longevity'. Another pair of Qianlong-marked bowls of this design was sold in these rooms, 19 September 2007, lot 308.
