A HUNGARIAN PARCEL-GILT SILVER TANKARD
CIRCA 1600, MAKER'S MARK MD
Tapering cylindrical on circular foot flat-chased with foliage, with molded zig-zag borders, the body with chasing and repoussé all over with arabesques alternating with strapwork enclosing cartouches, one cartouche with a doe in front of a castle, one with a stag, the third with a baying hound, all on a matted ground, with female herm handle, the hinged cover with similar chased and repoussé decoration and surmounted by a baluster finial, with thumbpiece formed as a winged female, marked twice under base
