The present sitter bears a strong physical resemblance to Elizabeth Seymour, née Percy, Duchess of Somerset, daughter of Josceline Percy, 11th Earl of Northumberland and wife of Charles Seymour, 6th Duke of Somerset. For a painting circa 1710 by Michael Dahl (1659-1743) and a chalk drawing after Sir Peter Lely circa 1679, see J. Ingamells, National Portrait Gallery, Later Stuart Portraits 1685-1714, London, 2009, pp. 258-260.
