Vallois describes himself as 'Sergent de la 6eme Compagnie du 1er Bataillon du 9eme régiment dinfantrie de ligne'. His marching lists indicate that in all he covered 3041 leagues through 287 towns up to 1805, and a further 108 towns in the following two years.
