Examples of bowls covered in rich ruby enamel on the exterior but plain on the interior, include one from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, illustrated by S. Valenstein, A Handbook of Chinese Ceramics, New York, 1989, p. 252, no. 255. Compare also a pair of ruby-back bowls sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 2 May 2005, lot 684.
