Lot Essay

St. Martin is believed to have been born in 316 in Sabaria, part of what is now Hungary. He is reported to have come across a beggar whilst travelling in France. Instead of turning the beggar away as others had done, Martin cut his military cloak in half to give warmth to the cold and starving man.
