AN ETCHED CLOSE-HELMET
PROBABLY NORTH ITALIAN, LATE 16TH EARLY 17TH CENTURY
With one-piece skull with high roped comb, visor with vision slits, prow-shaped upper bevor, lower bevor shaped to the chin, the bevors and visor all pivoting from the same points, the base of the skull and lower bevor each with narrow flange for gorgets, front gorget of four plates with turned roped main edge, decorated throughout with etched bands involving elements of armour, swords, birds and animals all highlighted with later gold-coloured finish
