The inscription on the cover of the box reads: Zheng Banqiao hua ke zhu gen bi ge (bamboo root wrist rest painted and carved by Zheng Banqiao), followed by 'Kanlu cang' (collection of Chen Zhongwen), juxtaposed with another twelve-character inscription stating that the wrist rest was given to Xu Hanqing by Chen Zhongwen in the first month of xinwei year, corresponding to 1931, and two two-character seals, one reading Kanlu, the other Zhongwen. The inscription on the underside of the box cover was written by Xu Hanqing in the same month to commemorate Chen's generous gift-giving.
