A 'CHICKEN BLOOD' SOAPSTONE SEAL
Of narrow rectangular section and with rounded, slightly irregular top, the seal face carved with the phrase: yuan tianxia you qing ren dou cheng liao juanshu ("wishing that all lovers under heaven will be united"), which is a line taken from the novel, Xixiang Ji (Romance of the Western Chamber), the stone with a distinct area of mottled yellowish-caramel color in contrast to the extensive bright vermilion- red inclusions in the remainder of the stone
