Late Roman stemmed goblets are found mainly on sites around the Mediterranean from the 4th century A.D., becoming more popular in the 5th and 6th centuries. This example with a tall applied solid stem belongs to a later type that is also found on early Islamic sites, cf. S. Jennings, 'Vessel Glass from Beirut BEY 006, 007 and 045', Berytus Archaeological Studies XL VIII-XLIX, Beirut, 2006, pp. 130-131. The wide-mouthed bowl is also similar to a 4th century A.D. shorter stemmed goblet in almost colourless glass from Vermand, France, cf. G. Dilly and N. Mahéo, Verreries antiques du Musée de Picardie, Amiens, 1997, p. 116, no. 318.
