Arabic manuscript on paper, 404ff. plus 7 fly-leaves, each folio with 12ll. of elegant black naskh, Persian interlinear translation in red naskh, gold and polychrome roundel verse markers, lines of text separated by gold rules and set in frame of gold and blue rules, sura headings in white muhaqqaq on gold ground with polychrome scrolling flowers and outlined with a thin border of cobalt-blue with quatrefoil gold details, large gold and polychrome marginal juz' markers, opening bifolium with gold and polychrome illumination around text in clouds reserved against gold ground and bordered with thin band of pink with gold quatrefoil details, colophon dated, in later lacquer binding with floral decoration, with fitted box.

Lot Essay

The inscription on the lacquer binding of this manuscript is Qur'an XXXIII, sura al-ahzab, v. 40 and the name of the maker, 'amal-e Ibrahim, 'Work of Ibrahim'.
