A QAJAR WALRUS IVORY-HILTED DAGGER (JAMBIYYA)
IRAN, MID 19TH CENTURY
The curved double-edged watered steel blade with reinforced point, top of blade outlined in gold and issuing palmettes which extend into a medial ridge on each side, one side of the waisted walrus ivory hilt carved in relief with the figure of a young prince standing in an exterior clutching a bouquet of flowers in his right hand, above and below a band of zig-zag motif with flowerheads in the interstices, the other side with another similarly carved young prince holding a bow and arrow, in brown leather sheath stamped with scrolling design and with small ivory chape, blade with small areas of pitting
