The entry of Christ into Jerusalem

The present lot is accompanied by a letter of Professor Roberto Longhi, dated 12 February 1958, stating the picture is painted by Giovannino Zanino di Pietro. Longhi suggests that this picture formed, together with other small panels, a predella with scenes from the life of Christ.

We are grateful to Mr. Everett Fahy for confirming the attribution on the basis of photographs (written communication, 28 April 2011). Fehy points out that Zanino di Pietro was strongly influenced by Gentile da Fabriano when painting the present lot.
