The circular brown leather-lined top above four frieze drawers and four simulated frieze drawers with rosewood knob handles, on a hexagonal spreading support and concave-sided base with gadrooned turned feet, with antifriction brass castors, with label typed 'WARING & GILLOW LTD 180 OXFORD STREET WI REMOVAL & WAREHOUSING DEPT.'

Lot Essay

Gillows' Estimate Sketch Books for the 1820s include designs for circular Library Drum tables, and Loo tables, with identical tripod pedestal bases, in particular a drawing for a mahogany Loo table, 4 ft. 6 in. diameter, with an identical base, supplied to Sir Robert Williams on 7 August 1826 (344/101-102, 1822-30, no. 3542, 7 August 1826). This popular model was still in production several years later illustrated, in June 1843 (344/104-105, 1837-55, no. 5398) and supplied to H.B. Higginson Esq. A closely related Drum table by Gillows sold at Christie's London, 14 June 2001, lot 179 (£32,900 including premium).
