An almost identical clock by this maker, with minor differences to the enamel decoration and possibly conceived as a pair to the present clock, was sold Sotheby's Amsterdam, the Janssen Collection, 25 November 2003, lot 167 (58,560 euros). Another almost identical Turkish market table clock, by Markwick, Markham & Borrell, is illustrated in P. Heuer/K. Maurice, Europaïsche Pendeluhren, Munich, 1988, p. 142, fig. 266. See also A.W.J.G. Ord-Hume, The Musical Clock, Mayfield, 1995, p. 73, pl. IV/22. A larger version of this model, also by Markwick, Markham & Borrell and housing an organ movement, was sold Christie's London, 7 December 2005, lot 45 (£50,400).
The firm of Markwick Markham and Perigal was initially a partnership of Robert Markham (continuing the name of his partnership with his father-in-law James Markwick) and Francis Perigal and is recorded 1751-1825.
