WANLI UNDERGLAZE-BLUE SIX-CHARACTER MARK IN A LINE WITHIN A DOUBLE RECTANGLE AND OF THE PERIOD (1573-1619)
The box divided into eight square compartments and supported on a stepped base, decorated to the exterior with sprays of flowers and lingzhi amongst insects in flight and stylised rockwork, above a band of scrolls and ruyi-lappet border around the base

Lot Essay

A partitioned wucai box but with cover and a different decoration, is in the collection of the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum, vol. 38, 'Porcelains in Polychrome and Constrasting Colours', Hong Kong, 1999, no. 39. A very similarly decorated box was sold in our Amsterdam rooms, 20 November 2007, lot 15.
