With mottled green and red patina, with tomobako titled Seido tsubo [Bronze Vase], signed and sealed Toyochika (Takamura Toyochika, 1890-1972)

Lot Essay

Takamura Toyochika was the son of the famous sculptor Takamura Koun, becoming a pupil of Tsuda Shinobu in 1908 and graduating from the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in 1915. He exhibited at the Teiten, Shin-Bunten and Nitten winning numerous prizes. In 1964 he was honored as a Ningen Kokuho or National Living Treasure.
