The luminous painting, Der Hausbau II, is a masterpiece by Cuno Amiet. Completed in 1908, it belongs to his most important creative period, his early works. It was produced the year when Amiet built his house in Oschwand. In winter, spring, summer and autumn, he made the surrounding garden, the fruit trees and the landscape of Oschwand a central topic in his oeuvre. Actually, the whole canton Bern became for him 'his garden'. Trees play a large role in Amiet's work. The numerous apple harvests as well as garden and Paradise depictions clarify this. Again and again, the reoccurring subject either adorned the background or played a central role in the picture composition, as well as in this work, where the actual topic, the construction of the house, steps into the background.
The work is registered as no. 32'989 with the Swiss Institute for Art Research, Zurich.
