Das Bild ist vermutlich während des Spanienaufenthalts des Künstlers, zwischen November 1958 und April 1959, entstanden. Es wurde vom Schriftsteller Hugo Loetscher aus dem Abfallkübel im Atelier Varlins am Neumarkt 11a in Zürich gerettet.

The picture probably developed during the artist's stay in Spain, between November 1958 and April 1959. It was later saved by the writer Hugo Loetscher from the wastebasket in Varlin's studio at Neumarkt 11a in Zurich.
