A FINE ENGLISH SILVER-MOUNTED HUNTING HANGER
SECOND QUARTER OF THE 18TH CENTURY
With slightly tapering single-edged fullered blade double-edged towards the point and etched on each side at the forte with panels of scrollwork and an inscription, cast and chased hilt comprising downturned shell-guard decorated in relief with a bearded 'Green Man' mask surrounded by shells and scrollwork, quillon-block with a lion-mask on each side, short downturned rear quillon decorated with scrollwork, knuckle-guard with central moulding en suite and struck with worn hallmarks (almost certainly London), pommel decorated in relief with scrollwork and extending down the grip with a large beared 'Green Man' mask, and natural staghorn grip (minor shallow marking and discolouration to blade)
